GOT THAT OLD VIGILANTE CHRISTIANITY? October 03, 2013 Ephesians 4:31–32 Key Verse: Ephesians 4:31–32 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you. There are too many “head-rolling” saints loose in the church. At the slightest offense, they want to take the law into their own hands and execute their own brand of justice on their offenders in the name of God. That is “vigilante Christianity,” and Jesus will have nothing to do with it! (After all, it was that kind of “justice” that put Him on the cross in spite of His sinless life!) Listen, if someone hurts you that badly, just forgive him quickly. Pray, “Lord, come on in and do whatever You have to do. I am stepping out of the way through the door of forgiveness. Now I release You to deal with this person in Your own way.” We actually think we have the right to pay someone back when he hurts or offends us. Virtually everyone has someone he has not forgiven—especially people from the distant past. How about you? Have you forgiven your mama? How about your daddy? Did you forgive the pastor from your former church? Here is the acid test: Is unforgiveness motivating you? Do you catch yourself saying, “I am going to show him. I have a right!” God says, “No, you do not have a right.” If you cannot forgive, then do not even bother to pray. Just go about your business and remain powerless. God says, “Pass on your mercy, pass on your love, pass on your kindness.” Get rid of that spirit of unforgiveness and allow the healing Spirit of God to flood your life! PRAYER Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. I know You have heard those words before, Father. I forgive those who wounded me, and I release them into Your hands for healing and restoration. As for justice, none of us could survive our just sentence; so I ask that Your grace would cover them just as it has covered me. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
