GOTTA HAVE IT: It was my first Sunday as Interim Pastor in a small town in Eastern Colorado and like all good pastors, I went to the back to shake hands and kiss babies after the service. That day as I stood outside, with the sun shining and children playing on the grass. One precious couple came up and in the middle of the chit-chat conversation pointed to two young boys and said, Those are OUR boys! My response in a heart beat was ALMOST, Dont give up, that third one will be a girl! But at the speed of lightening, the Holy Spirit said, DONT YOU SAY THAT!!! Fortunately I was obedient and with a tear in his eye, Gary went on to tell me that their twelve year old daughter had died suddenly the year before.Was I ever GLAD I didnt say what what I almost said! Later I learned of the road trip their family was returning from when their daughter asked if they could get some KFC that evening. They told of how she just carried on saying she was SO HUNGRY for fried chicken! Sure enough they got a bucket and she DEVOURED it like she hadnt eaten in a month! Afterwards, she fell asleep and was asleep when they got home! As a good daddy, he picked her up and brought her in and tucked her in bed, having no idea...... she would never wake up! The autopsy revealed that there was a VERY RARE chemical in her body that collided with a chemical in the chicken so that what she thought she HAD to have was the last thing in THE WORLD she needed! Paul wrote as to how he would BEAT his body and make it his slave in order to imitate Christ Jesus! Sometimes our body screams, you GOTTA HAVE IT but it just might be the WORST thing in the world for you! Do you have the peace of God about what you THINK you GOTTA HAVE or does it wage war with your soul?
