GOVERNMENT TO CONTINUE WITH POVERTY ERADICATION Government will move forward with the poverty eradication programme for those in most need, President Lt. General Seretse Khama Ian Khama has said. The President said after he was sworn in by Chief Justice Maruping Dibotelo at the National Assembly buildings on October 28. He said government was already in striking distance of meeting primary goal of eliminating extreme poverty among able bodied Botswana in 2016. “Our commitment to dignity for all is further reflected in our interventions on behalf of those living in remote area communities or having special needs such as people living with disabilities, orphans and those with health conditions, as well as the less fortunate in general,” President Khama said. He further said government continued to recognise that society’s dignity and quality of democracy, along with delivery of sustained development were all dependent on finding discipline to sacrifice selfish and short term interest for nation building. “We must work together to obtain standards of excellence that will enable us to compete with the very best in the world,” he said. President Khama acknowledged the trust, confidence and great responsibility conferred upon him and his party, the Botswana Democratic Party, to lead the country forward again.
