GOVERNMENT WANTS TO RULE THROUGH THE BARREL OF GUN” Srinagar, Oct 21 (KNS): Expressing grief over the death of a police personal at Palhallan Pattan in the recent past, President Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP)Legislature Engineer Rashid today said that the continuous arrests of youth and the ‘atrocities’ being committed on people by forces is strongly condemnable. In a statement issued to KNS, Er Rashid alleged that the government instead of understanding the aspirations of the young generation of Kashmir is keen to rule the state through the ‘barrel of gun’. Rashid said: “It will be only any inhuman person who will not feel the pain of the family of the deceased police personnel who lost his life in Palhalan but at the same time police has no moral or legal right to punish the common masses just to give an outlet to its anger.” Stating that the state has to be governed by the rule of law, Rashid said that no law permits any government to inflict ‘terror’ on its people. “How come life of a soldier who gets handsome salary can be more precious than that of a common man as right to live is the fundamental right of every human being on earth,” reads the statement issued to KNS. Castigating authorities for showing reluctance even in lodging First Information Report (FIR) against the atrocities being committed on masses, Rashid said that even if the FIR is registered, no action is being taken against the culprits.” The administration starts feeling heat and law certainly swings into action when someone pelts a stone towards men in uniform or raises a slogan,” said Rashid adding that such modus operandi does not suit the rulers of the state.” Er Rashid further added that authorities can not justify that it is fighting anti social and anti national elements whenever there is a disturbance in any part of the state. Flaying governments for undermining the true aspirations of the younger generation of Kashmir, MLA Langate said that the protests by the youth on the streets is an outcome of the anger against the authorities for failing to accommodate political aspirations of people who have rendered immense sacrifices since 1947. Asking the government to stop the ‘harassment of youth’, Rashid has advised that a comprehensive dialogue should be initiated with all the sections of society at the earliest so that peace could prevail in valley.
