GOVERNOR DICKSON, A GREAT ACHIEVER 2: Since he assumed office, Dickson has done marvelously well. Let us take a look at more of the numerous things he has achieved within this short period of time. Infrastructure Massive construction and expansion of roads and bridges in the state, three senatorial roads, airport, Agge Deep sea port, so far government has completed 350km of roads across the state, construction work of 15 bridges, over 50 public buildings, 2 flyovers, dualization of 18 roads and 2 outer ring roads are in progress to create easy accessibility. Economy Diversification of the economic base and to prepare the state for a post oil era, government has set up of the Bayelsa State Development and Investment Corporation (BDIC), to attract foreign direct investment. To stimulate the state’s economy, Governor Seriake Dickson presented a cheque of N230 million representing 50 percent of the consultancy fee to Scot Wilson and Arup to conduct feasibility studies on the Agge Deep Sea Port in Ekeremor Local Government area of the state within a period of nine months. The deep sea port is a key investment infrastructure geared towards reducing the state’s dependency on oil revenue and put Bayelsa on the path of industrialization for economic growth. To this end, the Governor said government has sought the approval of the Federal Government to declare the Deep Sea Port a Free Trade Zone for oil and gas and government would collaborate with the private sector for the realization of the project. Hon. Dickson also remarked that, the Nigerian Army had already surveyed an area of over 15,000 hectares with the intention of designating the zone, a Port City to enable Bayelsa reap the benefits of being a littoral state.
