GOVT. RATIONALISING LABOUR LAWS: SHAMENDA The government is in the process of rationalising labour laws so that it can have them before parliament by December 2014. This was disclosed by Minister of Labour ans Social Security Mr. Fackson Shamenda. Mr. Shamenda was speaking in Lusaka yesterday when International Labour Organisation (ILO) Director for Africa, Aeneas Chuma called on him. He identified 12 labour laws that he said were being shrunk to 5 laws so that they reflect the needs of the day. Some of the laws under consideration are the Employment Act, Employment (Special Provisions) Act, Industrial and Labour Relations Act, Minimum Wages and Conditions of Service Act, National Pensions (NAPSA) Act, Statutory Instrument No. 46 (2012) General Order and Statutory Instrument N0. 2 (2011) Minimum Wages. He also invited the labour unions toengage him over the wage freeze saying it was not cast in stone. He told Mr. Chuma that the government valued its relationship with the ILO and was ready to work with it to put in placelaws that promote decent and productive jobs.
