GP South Choir Bids Fond Farewell to Class of 2014 There will be both tears and cheers as the Class of 2014 says goodbye to the community and the Grosse Pointe North stage during the annual three-day Broadway extravaganza scheduled May 29-31 at the Grosse Pointe North Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. More than 30 solos – divided between the three nights -- will give the graduating seniors a chance to say goodbye after hundreds of hours of practice, performance and competition over the past four years. Highlights include the senior solos (spread out over three days) , as well as a nightly performance by a senior men ensemble, a senior women group, the Varsity-level Pointe Singers, the Tower Belles, the South Singers and the Sounds of South. Choir director Christopher Pratt, finishing his second year at Grosse Pointe South, promises the concerts will include a variety of songs and lively entertainment despite some inevitable sadness. “It’s definitely a bittersweet show for many of us who have known and loved these kids through the years,” he said. “Either way, it’s a great way to end the year and send them on to the next stage of their lives. It’s also our last opportunity to showcase and celebrate a truly talented class.” One of the respected and long-lived high school choirs in the country, the Grosse Pointe South choir program consists of four levels of performers, including Sounds of South, South Singers, and the varsity-level Tower Belles and Pointe Singers. Tower Belles and Pointe Singers both took highest honors in show choir competitions last year and the Ambassador Choir performed in London and Paris in February.
