GPRA Fans...an update from our President, John: Dear Great Pyrenees Friends, Guy just brought Opal in from Alabama and his email (see below) and pictures speak volumes. I dont know if its the onset of summer but we are getting flooded with Giants and many are in bad shape. Melody has had both ear canals removed, Snowball has had both ear canals removed, Badger had shoulder surgery, Casper has 6 different ailments, Isabellas blood doesnt clot, a bunch are heart worm positive and are in treatment and Opal will require leg surgery. Our remarkable group takes this with a smile because the end result almost always ends with a happy, pain free Giant and an even happier forever family that is lucky enough to adopt our PYR. Bonnie and our foster families have been beyond remarkable and I dont know how Jennifer and our medical supporters are keeping up. It appears the Atlanta Marathon will no longer be so we will have to figure out how to make up the $8,000 of income we received, not to mention the fun GPRA had participating in it. Thanks to all who have stepped up to take care of all these GPs. Its raining Giants!!! Opal is at VV. Pics attached. She is skinny. I dont mean just skinny. I mean Korrine/Lulu skinny. She weighed 40 lbs on the scale in VV lobby. She is a small dog but could still use 30-35 lbs. Coat is atrocious. See pics. She has whip worms and diahrrea. Also having the best day of her life. Yesterday was her PTS day at the shelter. Rode well. Very friendly. Likes being petted. Has some signs of dried nasal discharge around her nose and a very little bit of eye discharge. She is walking and putting weight on her right front leg but limps and lays down if youre in one spot very long. You can see the lump/swelling/protuberance on her leg in the first two pics.
