GRAB A TISSUE! Like me, youve probably known someone casually, and later discover something about their past that hits you deep within...Meet my friend, and West Point graduate, Doug Pringle! Ive known Doug, and his wife, Sheri Pringle for years, and I see them every Memorial Day at the Sacramento Jazz Festival. Tonight, In honor of Veterans Day, Sheri posted this photo of her Husband Doug, from the Vietnam War era. The image of this American Soldier is Iconic to me from back in my teenage years. Looking at this warrior sends chills up my spine, and tears down my cheek! In 1972, I missed being drafted into the Army by mere weeks... the draft was abolished that year in June 1972. I turned 18 one month earlier, and I had a low draft lottery number of 26! Doug is a single amputee. We have never discussed the cause of his missing limb, so tonight I asked Sheri if Doug lost his leg in the war and here is her reply!: Tony...Yes he did. He was hit in both legs.... took one right off. Boot and leg standing in the rice patty. His left leg was shot through and tore up so bad. He had 18 surgeries in 17 months to repair it. She continued.... He lost his West Point ring in the mud trying to get his belt off for a tourniquet. He got the belt around his thigh and found his ring in the mud. The medic got to him and shot him with morphine and it shot right out the end of his leg... they air lifted him with in 5 minutes. He was one of the lucky ones! I pray I will never know the horror Doug Pringle knows all too well...I can only thank him, and the countless other American Heroes... who have, and continue to keep America Free! God Bless you, Doug... Next time we shake hands it will be for friendship, and FREEDOM! Happy Veterans Day, Doug...here is a great big LIKE from me and my other 1,260+ facebook friends!
