GRADUATION: KENYATTA NATIONAL HOSPITAL NURSING SCHOOL Kenyatta National Hospital Nursing Schoolconductedthe7th Graduation ceremony where 64graduandswere awarded Diploma certificates in specialized nursing courses including perioperative nursing, critical care nursing, nephrology, accident and emergency and neonatal care.The graduands included 54 Kenyans, 1Zambian and 9 Rwandese. Presiding over the graduation on 21st November 2014, Mr. Jackson KoitumentMparioDirector, KNH Board of Management said that health is the greatest wealth for any nation and KNH is committed to investing in promoting good health for Kenyans and patients beyond our borders. He added that successful, healthy and happy individuals make a successful nation. “In fulfilling our great health dream to the patients, we believe that education is important in promoting specialized skills and enthusiasm for the health personnel to meet the increasing demand for health care” Said Mr. Mpario.He added that in the presence of devolution, KNH will continue to support County Governments by training specialized healthcare personnel in order to reduce the number of referral patients to KNH. He called on the graduands to ensure they impact positively in any healthcare settings they will be practicing so that they can be emulated as good ambassadors of KNH. The KNH Chief Executive Officer Lily KorosTare noted that the increased demand for quality healthcare services requires well trained and specialized healthcare personnel. She added that nursing is important in defining the best care in a hospital considering their involvement in providing palliative care, home-care, primary and preventive care. The CEO noted that KNH Nursing School has extended its catchment in the East and Central African regionadmitting students from Tanzania, Uganda, Namibia, Rwanda, and Zambia.She encouraged nurses to enroll and take advantage of available training opportunities in KNH to acquire specialized skills. The programs have been duly approved by the Nursing Council of Kenya. The KNH Nursing School was started in 1996 with the aim of offering specialized nursing courses. The school has grown and expanded and is currently offering various courses namely; perioperative nursing, critical care nursing, nephrology, accident and emergency and neonatal care. Other programs offered include Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN), internship programs and short courses in nursing. To date over 780 students having graduated from the school.
