GRAFTON SERVICES SWIM CLUB NEWS Jordyn McSkimming used her power of persuasion this week and enticed her granddad, Garry, to nominate for a swim. Garry, a former member of the club, admitted that it had been thirteen odd years since last taking a dip with the club, and although his times were a little slow, he put in a great effort. The Durrington family dominated all and sundry at the final swim meet for 2014. Bruce, and his son Tyler, made all three finals. Whilst Tyler took it all in his stride, Bruce was puffing like an old steam train as he lined up for the last swim. Only four swimmers qualified for the 50m final. They were Jenny Vickery, Matt Thompson and the two Durringtons, Bruce and Tyler. Well, we don’t know where Jenny found the extra energy in this event, but she was a mile in front for the entire race. This, of course, earned her a disqualification, which allowed Bruce to take first spot, coming home just .06 seconds ahead of Tyler. The Durringtons and Jenny Vickery were again on the blocks for the final of the 30m freestyle and they were joined by the only fresh starter, Damien McSkimming. The law of averages would favour Damien in this race, and sure enough, he crossed the line with a great time, just nudging Jenny in to second place, with Bruce sneaking into third. The Wykes Tyrepower Cup was the final event for the evening and 2014, and the only fresh face on the blocks was John Wainwright. His opposition was coming from Damien McSkimming and the slightly bedraggled pair of Bruce and Tyler Durrington. John was unlucky in this race, breaking his time by only .08 of a second. Next over the line was Damien, and he had no problem accepting his second win for the night. Tyler and Bruce filled second and third positions with times that were understandably just a little slow.
