GRANGEVILLE, ID – The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests report that there is one new fire on the Red River Ranger District approximately one mile northwest of Five Mile Pond in the general vicinity of Orogrande. Holding at about a quarter acre, it is staffed by four rappellers and six district firefighters. A medium helicopter provided assistance with water drops yesterday. From Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests: The aggressive action by firefighters on the Nut Hill Fire has proved very effective. There has been no new growth. The fire stayed within the handline completed Saturday around its perimeter and remains at about four acres. In the absence of further initial attack needs today, both Hotshot crews have remained on the fire, along with two district personnel and a water tender. All other resources have been released. A large smoke column to the east was visible Sunday, particularly from higher elevations. The Gold Pan Fire near Gold Pan Lake in the general vicinity of Salmon Mountain Lookout on the Bitterroot National Forest was last reported to us at 170 acres and is expected to grow. It may impact the Magruder Road Corridor by Monday. Moose Creek District: No new fires were reported. The fires in the Selway-Bitterroot wilderness; California Point Fire, Bailey Cleek Fire, and Moose Creek Fire continue to burn. The Glover Fire was considered contained on Sunday. Salmon River Ranger District: No new fires reported. Containment on the Rough Creek Fire is expected today. A closure area order remains in effect east and north of Riggins. County Road 1614 (Salmon River Road) and Grangeville-Salmon Road #221 remain open. Travelers are asked to use caution on Salmon River Road 1614 and watch out for heavy fire traffic.
