GRANT FUNDING AVAILABLE! Under the Caribbean Climate Innovation Center Proof of Concept Competitive Grant Scheme. Application Deadline: March 30, 2014. The Proof of Concept Grant (The Grant) of the Caribbean Climate Innovation Centre (CCIC) is provided by InfoDev, a global partnership Program of the World Bank and managed by a consortium of the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI), Trinidad & Tobago, and the Scientific Research Council (SRC), Jamaica, supported by Hubs at partner institutions located throughout the Caribbean region. The Grant enables individuals, start-ups, micro-enterprises and Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to explore the technical feasibility and establish the commercial potential of a concept that has potential to significantly contribute to climate mitigation and/or adaptation. PURPOSE OF PROOF OF CONCEPT (POC) GRANT: The CCIC provides POC grants to entrepreneurs seeking to determine the viability of their business ideas/business models in the context of climate technology development, deployment or transfer. In general the POC grant will normally be up to USD 25,000 but may be increased to USD 50,000 for proposals that demonstrate exceptional potential impact. The proposed technologies or business models to be funded under POC must demonstrate potential positive impact to environment and community through mitigation or adaptation to identified climate challenges. The POC grants aim to facilitate product development, prototyping, testing and/or piloting of a product or service to enable the entrepreneur to prove that the idea/business model is viable in a technical and commercial sense. In most cases, it is expected that POC grants will help entrepreneurs to fine-tune some elements of the idea/model or open opportunities for other sources of funding.
