GRE : some misconception & reality: GRE exam এ participate করার আগে proper information না জানার কারনে আমাদের অনেকের মাঝেই অনেক confusion কাজ করে। coaching center এ গেলে generalized info দেয়া হয় but undergrad এ different background থেকে আসা student দের জন্য specific info দেয়া হয় না অনেকসময়ই। যার জন্য exam এর আগে অনেকের ভাল preparation থাকা সত্ত্বেও confidence level low থাকে যার ফলে score কম আসে। এ রকম কিছু বিষয় নিচে discuss করা হল। এক. যেসব department এর student রা undergrad এ math করার scope পায় না তারা doubt এ থাকে তারা quantitative(math) এ ভাল করতে পারবে কিনা ( যেহেতু তারা math related subject/ engineering background এর student না)............ বিষয়টা হল quantitative section এ আপনাকে judge করা হবে যে আপনার basic math সম্পর্কে idea আছে কিনা that is আমরা SSC level এ যে math করে আসছি সেটার উপর base করেই different difficulty level এর question করা হয়। so, question সবার জন্যই same. So, engineering/ math related subject এর কেউ যদি আপনাকে discourage করে যে GRE আপনার জন্য না- তাহলে simply ignore that person. দুই. অনেকে বলে “GRE তে 2000/3000 word মুখস্ত করা লাগে but আমি তো Albert Einstein এর বংশধর-মুখস্ত করা কাকে বলে তা আমি জানিই না-তাই GRE আমার জন্য না।”............ আমি just এটাই বলতে চাই যে-বাংলাদেশের education system টাই মুখস্তের উপর Base করে আছে (সব varsity’র কথাই বলছি-please Einstein রা এখানে আসে হাউকাউ করবেন না)। so, যেখানে সারা জীবন math exam ও মুখস্ত করে দিয়ে গেছেন সেখানে 4-6 মাসে 2000/3000 GRE word 3/4 বার reading দেয়া tough কিছু না। আর যদি আপনি Einstein ও হয়ে যান তাহলে আপনাকে বলি যে Verbal (english) এ ultimately আপনার reasoning ability I mean engilsh ভাল বুঝেন কিনা সেটারই test হয়। তিন. সবাই ই চায় অন্যজনের কাছে নিজের positive দিকটা express করতে। সেটা করতে গিয়ে অনেকে GRE তে 290 পেলেও 320 বলে চালায় দেয়। কেউ 290 কে 320 বললে সেটা problem না। problem হয় তখন যখন কেউ really 300 পেয়ে post দেয় যে তার(300 scorer) GRE retake নেয়া লাগবে কিনা। তখন যে যার মত বলতে থাকে retake নেন, bad score এই type এর কথা । so, এসব শুনলে 300 scorer frustrated হতে পারে। new student দের আমি just এটাই বলব যে 300 এর উপরে প্রতিটা mark এর জন্য আপনাকে really ভাল ভাবেই test করা হয়। আর USA’র যেকোনো rank এর varsity তে admission/scholarship only GRE’র উপর depend করে না। তারা আপনার overall profile টাই judge করে (Cgpa, publication,Toefl/Ielts). এই type এর score কে blindly খারাপ বলা যাবে না। Here I am suggestion some books & online tests that helped me. Suggested Books: Quantitative: 1. Manhattan 5lb (to me-the best for Quant) 2. Nova’s GRE math bible 3. Manhattan GRE (quant-solve this if possible) 4. Magoosh GRE (I heard this is good but I didn’t solve) Verbal : 1. Princeton cracking 2. Barron’s GRE 3. Manhattan ( lots of examples for practice with difficult GRE words. Ignore words(find the meaning from dictionary). try to understand how to solve different questions ) Vocabulary: 1. Barron’s 3500 Online Test : 1. Powerprep 2 (2 tests-similar to ETS exam) 2.
