GREAT DIRECTORS AND THEIR WORST FILMS They all have one, sometimes more than one, a film that they put everything they had into and it failed -- for whatever reasons the audiences did not show up or the critics beat the film down -- their failure -- hopefully they learned from it as some do, or at least understood where they went wrong, but they all have them. Some go years without one, Martin Scorsese has made six films since 2002, each of them brilliant, Oscar nominations for five of them, and he should have had one for the other -- others cannot seem to get a break. So for pure indulgence, here are fifteen directors and their worst film(s). 1. STEVE SPIELBERG - HOOK (1991), 1941 (1979) 2. COPPOLA - JACK (1996), ONE FROM THE HEART (1982) 3. SCORSESE - BRINGING OUT THE DEAD (1999) 4. ALLEN - ZELIG (1983) 5. RIDLEY SCOTT - THE COUNSELLOR (2013) 6. OLIVER STONE - ALEXANDER (2004) 7. ANG LEE - HULK (2001) 8. M. NIGHT SHYMALAN - AFTER EARTH (2013) 9. ROMAN POLANSKI - PIRATES (1986) 10. LUMET - THE WIZ (78) 11. EASTWOOD - THE ROOKIE (90) 12. CAMERON CROWE - ELIZABETHTOWN (2001) 13. MILOS FORMAN - GOYAS GHOST (2005) 14. JASON REIETMAN - LABOR DAY (2014) 15. ROBERT ALTMAN - POPEYE (1980) YOU?
