Please Join us: Our Special Guest will be Nevada Senate Commerce, Labor and Energy Chairman Kelvin Atkinson. Senator Atkinson was first elected to the Nevada Assembly in 2002. He never missed a vote. As a result of his good work, he was chosen to attend the Western Legislative Academy, which trains new legislators to become stronger and more effective leaders. Kelvin performed so well at the Academy that he was elected the 2003 Class President. In 2012, Kelvin was elected to the Nevada State Senate and immediately assigned to be chair of the Commerce, Labor and Energy Committee. A highlight of Senator Atkinsons leadership came in the form of Senate Bill 123, which Senator Atkinson championed. The bill was designed to promote the use of clean energy by reducing Nevadas reliance on coal-fired energy plants. During hearings on Senate Bill 123, Senator Atkinson established important precedent regarding the separation of powers of disparate branches of state government that will have ramifications for years to come.
