GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNGER ACTORS - GOOD LUCK EVERYONE - THERE MIGHT BE A NICE PART JUST FOR YOU! Open castings are being held for The Christmas Star, Northern Ireland’s first ever Christmas feature film, made by Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People. A host of film and television professionals are supporting the ground-breaking film production that will engage with hundreds of young people, marking the beginning of a year of Cinemagic’s 25th Anniversary celebrations. Cinemagic patrons, Ros and John Hubbard, of Hubbard Casting, are launching the search for young talent for the film from 6th- 8th June in Ballymena, Belfast and Newry and invite young people with all levels of experience to audition. The open castings for young females aged 9-12 and young males aged 9-15 will take place on: Friday 6th June from 3.30pm – 7.00pm in The Braid: Ballymena Town Hall, Museum & Arts Centre, Ballymena Saturday 7th June from 10.00am – 4.00pm in The Europa Hotel, Belfast Sunday 8th June from 12pm – 6pm in the Canal Court Hotel, Newry. Pleaese bring a recent, simple photograph to the audition. CASTING FOR THE FOLLOWING ROLES: NOELLE (9 - 12 yrs) LEAD An interesting and different girl - a bit of a tomboy. Loves to play football - doesn’t like wearing dresses. She is sensitive and perceptive. She is inquisitive and this can sometimes get her into trouble. She is fearless and will stop at nothing to restore order and peace. She is a little heroine. JUNIOR (14 / 15 yrs) A brat and show off - has no time for the younger children. A bit of a snob as he is a rich kid, wealthy and spoilt. Behind the mask he is an insecure teenager who just dearly desires to please his dismissive and greedy Dad. SPUD-BOB (9 - 12 yrs) ‘Spud Bob’ is nicknamed the Irish ‘Sponge Bob’ as he looks like him. Spud-Bob is Noelle’s best friend. He is naturally comical and is always eating snacks. A loyal friend. BERNADETTE (9 – 12 yrs) A goody two shoes and a school friend of Noelle’s. She thinks she knows it all. CUTIE PIE (9 – 12yrs) A school friend of Noelle’s and plays on the football team. She is the little cute kid in the school. Appears younger/smaller than others. BUBBLE (9 – 12yrs) Boy or Girl. Daydreamer who has her mouth open a lot of the time. A great friend of Noelle’s at school. Bubble is extremely innocent and seems to miss most things going on around her/him. IPADDY (9 - 13 yrs) A boy who is on the football team and friend of Noelle. He is a technical IT genius. He is a scientific buff. THOMAS (9 - 12 yrs) Another schoolboy. He questions and disagrees with most things. Among those involved in the production are Cinemagic patrons Liam Neeson and Pierce Brosnan, Oscar winning film producer,Gareth Ellis Unwin (The King’s Speech), award winning film composer, Patrick Doyle, (Brave, Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Music Supervisor, Maggie Rodford, (The King’s Speech, Anna Karenina), casting directors and Cinemagic patrons, Ros and John Hubbard, (The Commitments, Dracula Untold), camera operator, Ian Fox, (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Amazing Spider-Man), producer, Iain Smith, (Children of Men, Mad Max, Fury Road), and production manager, Terry Bamber(The Man from U.N.C.L.E, Skyfall). Industry professionals will mentor young people throughout the film production process from script to screen, giving invaluable insights to the world of filmmaking and sharing their wealth of experience to help develop young people’s skills across various film disciplines ranging from directing, acting and production to script editing, film composition, and costume/makeup. Cinemagic Chief Executive, Joan Burney Keatings, MBE said ‘’We are honoured to have support from Hubbard Casting and we are delighted to be embarking on the first set of auditions for the film. We look forward to meeting lots of young budding actors who will get the chance to audition for one of the top casting agents in the UK and Ireland.” The project is supported by OFMDFM, BBC Northern Ireland and UTV with the filming taking place from 20th October - 15th November 2014.
