GREATEST SOLAR FLARE EVER DETECTED News: If you thought an X1-class solar flare was bad, how about an X100,000? NASAs Swift spacecraft has detected such a explosion. Fortunately for life on Earth, it did not come from the sun. The source of the super-flare was another star almost 60 light-years away, DG CVn. April 23, SWIFT detection satelite, flare coming from a nearby flare star called DG CVn, a relatively unknown star. It is an M-class star, also called a red dwarf and is located only about 60 light years away It has a luminosity about 1/1000th that of the sun, a mass 1/3 of the sun, radius about 1/3rd of the sun The largest solar flare ever recorded happened on Nov 4, 2003 at about 20h00 GMT. It was so powerful that it overloaded the sensors measuring it Later calculations put it at an X45 flare X-flares are classified according to their strength, ranging from B,C,M and X, the largest. An X-45 flare is a very powerful flare! DG CVns flare, however, was an X-100 000! This flare was onkly the start of a flare event that lasted almost 20 days! https://youtube/watch?v=hL9OHXw_-A8&list=PLiuUQ9asub3Qq1AQRirDI-naOwo1H5gaB&index=1
