GREEN VALLEY THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS AUDITIONS FOR: “THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA BOOK BY: CRAIG LUCAS MUSIC AND LYRICS BY: ADAM GUETTEL DIRECTED BY: MARIANA SEDA MUSICAL DIRECTION BY: CHRISTOPHER COOK THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA takes place in Italy in the summer of 1953. Margaret Johnson, the wife of an American businessman, is touring the Tuscan countryside with her daughter, Clara-a beautiful, surprisingly childish young woman. While sight-seeing she meets a young handsome Florentine, Fabrizio Nacarelli and the two fall immediately and intensely in love. Margaret, extremely protective of her daughter, attempts to keep Clara and Fabrizio apart. As the story unfolds and the romance grows, a secret is revealed to the audience about Clara. Unable to suppress the truth about her daughter, Margaret is forced to reconsider not only Clara’s future, but her own hopes as well. A multiple Tony-award winning show with a stunning musical score and supporting characters that steal the show, it is definitely an opportunity you will not want to miss out on! The show will run August 15th-September 7th (Fridays and Saturdays @ 8pm and Sundays @ 7pm) Rehearsals begin July 7th and are usually Sundays-Thursdays 7:00-10:00pm AUDITIONS-MONDAY, MAY 19TH AND TUESDAY MAY 20TH (you do not need to come to both nights) @ 7:00pm at the Grange Performing Arts Center 3823 V Street, Sacramento, CA 95817 Please prepare 32 bars or a verse and a chorus of either a musical theatre song (something more operetta-style preferred) -think shows like My Fair Lady, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, Carousel,” a Gilbert and Sullivan piece, etc. Or you may choose to sing something from a classical Italian opera. ACCOMPANIST WILL BE PROVIDED. Bring sheet music with you. Many of the roles require singing/speaking in Italian and speaking English with an Italian dialect. We will be training actors that we cast in proper pronunciation, translation, etc. But having some of that training or experience under your belt is an advantage! There may also be a short movement/dance audition. Callbacks will be later in the week (either Wednesday or Thursday) if needed.
