GREGERS UNBEATEN AT VALLEY By Cody Winnell DAVID Hayes-trained three-year-old filly Gregers stretched her unbeaten Moonee Valley run to three on Saturday with an easy win in the Mitchelton Wines Plate. The exciting daughter of Commands led from start to finish for boom apprentice Chad Schofield and firmed into outright favourite for October’s Group 1 Thousand Guineas. Gregers jumped well from barrier six and cruised to the front before skipping clear in the straight for a 1.8-length triumph over Mick Kent-trained The Huntress, who hit the line solidly. Darren Weir was the training star of Saturday with a winning treble. Weir’s winning run kicked off in Race 2, the Adapt Australia Handicap over 2500m, with evergreen stayer Gotta Take Care scoring a 0.8-length win over Stable Star. Jockey Ben Melham delivered a gun ride aboard the nine-year-old, settling him just off the leaders before making his run at the home corner. In the straight Gotta Take Care reeled in Stable Star, who made a bold bid for victory after leading early, while Innocent Lady showed she was getting closer to another win with a second consecutive third. Weir went on to win the listed 1PRINT.COM.AU Carlyon Stakes over 1000m with inform sprinter Broken, ridden by Nicholas Hall. AND CODY’S HORSES TO FOLLOW FROM YESTERDAY CAUTHEN: Brilliant turn of foot to win the Essendon Nissan McKenzie Stakes. This Kiwi galloper has champion written all over him. When he gets to 1400m-1600m, look out! POCKET ROCKETS: Scorched to the line behind Broken in the Carlyon Stakes after getting a mile out of his ground. Been up for a long time, but if has one more run this time in, I’ll be on. SIR FERNANDO: Did some work in the last to find the lead and was gutsy to kick on and finish second to stablemate Le Bonsir. There is still improvement in Sir Fernando, so a solid spring campaigns beckons NORZITA: Loved how she hit the line up in Sydney for Team Cummings. Cox Plate, anyone (remember Dane Ripper)?
