GRFC City Lunch No.1: Youre Only As Good As Your Last Lunch! Guildford RFC Laid On Lunch For Jason Leonard & John Inverdale...Oh And 160 Guests! Last Fridays inaugural City Lunch No.1 was a fantastic event and a huge success. While marking a milestone in the clubs history having been ten years in the making, more than 160 people came together at Brasserie Blanc (St. Pauls) to support Guildford RFC and celebrate all that is good about the great game. We set out to create a key calendar event for our London community to enjoy and support and they certainly didnt disappoint. Indeed, such was the level of enthusiasm and enjoyment at City Lunch No.1 that City Lunch No.2 - planned for 6 November 2014 - looks like being a sellout even before details are finalised and tickets go on sale! It was a marvellous affair with lots of wine, lovely food, marvellous speakers and a brilliant raffle and auction list which ensured that as well as being a great social occasion, the event was also a huge success in terms of fundraising. With the aid of very generous donations, enthusiastic bidding and a room full of likeminded people intent of having a great afternoon in the company of Jason Leonard - Englands most capped player, World Cup winner and RFU 2015 President Elect and John Inverdale - BBCs Grandstand & Tennis, the afternoon raised in excess of £16,000 (net) which Im sure youll agree is a fantastic sum of money. This magnificent sum was down to the consummate skill of John as Auctioneer, Jason as the Ambassador of English Rugby, a wonderful City venue and great staff and of course those that so generously supported the event. It is nigh on impossible to accurately reflect the warmth and joie de vivre of last Friday here in this piece; as they say You really had to be there. Suffice as to say it was a momentous occasion that left many reluctant to go home. Job Done! I here you cry. Well, not quite as were already looking ahead to City Lunch No.2 in November with Youre only as good as your last lunch ringing in our ears...No pressure then! These lunches will go towards paying down the sizeable debt which is the legacy of our wonderful new clubhouse The Broadwater Pavilion and form part of a programme to ensure that rugby will thrive at Broadwater in the years to come as we enter a new era in not only the clubs history but also in the way that the club goes about its business. Lastly, should you wish to get a flavour of City Lunch No.1 there is a short piece of video footage posted on YouTube by Chris Towndrow of London Corporate Media who kindly gave up his time and expertise to provide a memento for those that were there and offer an insight to those who were unable to attend on this occasion. m.youtube/watch?v=6IcwyC6FVwg Chris also took ~150 photographs over the course of the afternoon. We hope to have a selection of these up on the club website alongside this piece about City Lunch No.1 in the coming days. pitchero/clubs/guildford/ A Huge Thank You To All Off You That Made It Possible. See you at No.2!
