GRIP WORK: Varing grips is a way to make a machine a multi-purpose unit and train a muscle completely. Using a prone and neutral grip on a machine shoulder press is how one woyld emphasis specific heads of the shoulders. In the video on the left, joe Santoiemma is using a prone grip effecting all 3 heads at different phases of the lift. In the right video, joe is using a neutral grip with the front head is the primary target. This position also places less stress on the rotator cuff.
