GROUP INFORMATION, RULES AND SNAKE REMOVAL AND RESCUE INFORMATION This group is for past or present people in the Ridgecrest or surrounding areas who are reptile enthusiasts, or want to gain a better understanding of these animals. We enjoy herping and the desert wildlife. Our goal is to promote responsible herping, conservation and preservation of native reptiles and their habitats. Also to expand our own knowledge and educate others to prevent the unnecessary killing of snakes out of fear and misunderstanding of the species. If you find something interesting or educational please feel free to share it with everyone. Also we love to see photographs of your finds. This is not a group for anyone who disrespects or kills for fun, please do not join if that is you. There are many in the group who have very strong feelings on the subject of unnecessary killing or killing for fun so please respect that as we are here because we love these creatures and want to save them. We try to have monthly meet ups in the park to socialize and share reptiles, along with herping trips. There are members that are willing to let you ride along, and members that would like to ride along, so please offer a seat if you are willing. Feel free to set up an event if you would like to have a group outing. Please check out some field herping ethics and etiquette, especially if you are new to herping californiaherps/info/fieldherpingethics.html GROUP ADMINS Renee Chapai, Steve Leuschen, Dani Mackey, Derrick Mackey RULES Be respectful of other members in the group, and no name calling. If you are repeatedly starting arguments with members you will be removed. Debates and opinions are fine as long as they are respectful of other members. Please do not post advertisements that are irrelevant to the group. It is ok to advertise reptile related items you are selling yourself, or if you know of a great place that will benefit group members. It is illegal to buy, sell, or trade native reptiles, any posts relating to illegal activities will be removed and the poster may be removed from the group at the discretion of the admins. Please do not post inappropriate photos, illegal activity, or trophy shots. Only post items made of skins if the skins were collected from animals found dead (dor), and specify that when you post or it will be removed. We do not condone or promote the killing of wildlife for use of their skins or any other reason, or illegal poaching. Those promoting killing or poaching will be removed from the group, and poachers will be reported. (Poaching is the illegal taking of fish and wildlife. It can involve the taking of more animals than the law allows, and the illegal commercialization of reptiles) Report Poaching to Cal-Tip 1 888 DFG-CALTIP(888 334-2258) You are responsible for knowing the current regulations regarding reptiles if you plan to catch or collect them, if you have any questions please ask the group. This is a list of wonderful people in the area that will safely capture, remove, and release venomous and non-venomous snakes for you. You can help by watching the snake, and where it goes. Along with giving an accurate description, such as coloration, markings, size, better yet take a photo. There is always a risk of someone being bitten in handling venomous snakes, no matter how experienced or skilled. Some snake relocators charge a fee for their service, these amazing people have offered to do the service for free to help the community and our reptiles. I encourage you to offer compensation for their time, gas for relocating, and the risk to their lives. Snakes are an important part of our ecosystem, they keep the rodent population down, and they really don’t want to bother you. Please don’t kill, just call!
