GT Cup Round 1 MildenHall For MJW Go&Fun Energy Kawasaki, the season has well and truly started with a young gun squad of four 85cc riders decamping to Mildenhall in Suffolk for the first round of the GT Cup this past weekend. On Saturday morning, Lewis Wood and Brad Woodage qualified in tenth and thirty-fifth respectively in the Small Wheel 85 class, whilst in the Big Wheel 85 class, Denny Rapson and Dan Shepherd both slipped into the top fifteen with an eighth and a twelfth. The weekends racing saw Lewis put in a great effort; several crashes dented his standings in three of four races and he missed out on the top ten twice, much to his annoyance. An eighth on Sunday morning and a sixteenth in the afternoon rounded out the weekend for a tie for tenth place. Brad also suffered from crashes throughout the two days racing that left him fighting back from the back of the pack. He went on to score eighteen points at the end of the weekend for a thirty-eighth place. Denny improved his scores as the weekend wore on. A sixteenth and a fifteenth on Saturday turned into two top ten results on Sunday, giving him twelfth overall on his first weekend out on the green machine. Dan had a roller-coaster weekend. A massive crash in his first race left him in twentieth, but in the second race he made up for that with a top ten result in ninth. On Sunday morning, he found himself dealing with the same issue as the day before; a thirteenth in the first race was transformed into an eighth in the second race for a tenth place overall on the weekend. While Rob Davidson, the teams senior rider, will attend the Maxxis British Motocross Championship opener at Landrake this weekend, the remainder of the squad will prepare for the next round of the GT Cup at Wilden Lane in three weeks. Lewis Wood: The weekend was quite good, In the first moto I had an eighth and in the second I dont know, I crashed. I crashed in every moto this weekend except for the one I got eighth in, so overall it was a good weekend. I would just like to thank all my sponsors and MJW Go & Fun Kawasaki, Race FX, Toptul, thanks! Brad Woodage: I crashed in every race, but in the first one I was in twenty-second and had a big crash, but overall on the weekend, I think Ive been one of the smoothest riders out there. Id like to thank Kawasaki and Go&Fun Energy for all the support that weve had for these weekends. Denny Rapson: Well, Saturday I wasnt really happy with, I kept crashing and didnt get the start I wanted. Sunday I had decent starts and just stayed on and Im happy with two tenths, really. This is my first weekend on a Kawasaki and Im really happy with the bike, since Ive always been on a KTM. Dan Shepherd: The weekend was good and not good because on the Saturday the bike cut out and flung me over while I was in eighth. I was gutted. I had a ninth in the second race, which was pretty good, but then in the first race on Sunday the bike cut out on the jumps again, and in the second race I got an eighth. But I enjoyed it.
