GTM WALK 4 LIFE! Yes we are serious! If we have given the impression that you must be sick or suffering with diabetes, hypertension of coronary heart disease to take up walking, we apologize. It is the absence of physical activity that we want to address. We want the whole nation to get up and become active, and walking is an easy and simple activity that fosters good health. All walking is good for you, but brisk walking is best. Brisk walking will help combat the dreaded lifestyle burdens of hypertension, diabetes and heart disease. Brisk walking makes your heart beat faster and makes you breathe deeper and makes you sweat! All of these have a positive effect and your mood, self esteem and sense of well being. Choose a route that starts with flat or relatively flat path. The hills should be midway through the walk and should not be too steep. Start slowly and build up to a brisk pace as you go, attacking the hills and inclines with vigor. Then slow down towards the end and finish off with a gentle pace. Do this three or four times a week. The walk starts at 6:30 AM, from the Troumasse Bridge in Micoud on the east coast and from the Piaye playing field on the west coast, culminating at the Danes playing field near sandy beach in Vieux Fort. Take the challenge. Gather a group together and come walk for life. Registration is $18.00, per person register at any GTM Offices in Castries, Vieux Fort or Soufriere.
