GULL COTTAGE NETWORK: RETRO SUNDAYS - TUNEPLAY: BLACK SUNDAY - John Williams (orig. post 6/12/13) 3 years ago our intent was to seed the beginnings of a network / film reference library. And while the TV version launches Spring / Summer 2015 (notice the start date has been upped from Nov. 2015), the library part has grown to such a degree we can now post retrospective catalogs of material. Today we revisit our always popular TUNEPLAY FILM MUSIC SERIES. More than snippets of film music the TUNEPLAY postings are micro library references of scores (both classic and obscure) accompanied by crisply edited montage presentations and mini making of the film and its score essay. Told DAY OF THE JACKAL-like from the alternating POVs of both the antagonist terrorists and Israeli government agent pursuing them, BLACK SUNDAY is a nerve-racking down-to-wire thrill ride detailing a fictitious attempt by the Black September group to use an embittered American pilot to detonate a shrapnel bomb beneath the innocuous Goodyear blimb and over Miamis Super Bowl game. A fanatical fan of film music, producer Robert Evans brought John Williams onto BLACK SUNDAY, its score of which dually emanates from both a pulsating Obsession ideal associated with the PLO plot, and dark Hebraic / Klezmer-esque melody connected to Robert Shaws world weary Israeli agent Kabakov. youtube/watch?v=aK1bgdcm_5w&list=UUMjTNnJi2UHbTwddq_hGsyA
