GUNJAN SHARMA THE BRAVO OF ASSAM A gunman was involved in an altercation with the locals of a town in Assam. The altercation led to a chase, and during this chase, the gunman took a school van carrying children as his hostage. The gunman forced the driver of the van to drive towards Nagaland. The driver of the van drove as per the instructions, but he managed to halt the van by driving it into a roadside ditch using his presence of mind. At this point, the menacing gunman tried to take a young girl with him as he fled into the jungles. This is when Gunjan intervened and volunteered herself to accompany the gunman if hed let the oter girl go. The gunman took Gunjan with him into the jungles and kept her as hostage throughout the night. As the Assam police and the Nagaland police intensified the hunt to capture the gunman, he was forced to flee, leaving Gunjan behind in the jungle. In the morning, this young teenager made her way out of the jungle on her own. This is the story of brave Gunjan, who is just a simple teenager from a small town in Assam. The bravery of this young girl has impressed the state government so much that they have decided to institute a state bravery award, the first of which will go to Gunjan. She is now out of 24 to receive National Bravery Award of 2014. There are eight girls out of 24
