GUNS N HOSES The World Police and Fire Games got off to a flying start yesterday, as media outlets across the Province intensely promoted the world famous event, which no one actually had heard of before coming to Northern Ireland. Belfast, the lucky recipient of £14m extravaganza of amateur sporting achievement by people in strange uniforms, was said to be delighted at the opportunity to foot the bill. Meanwhile organisers have revealed the Derry’s fire fighters and police officers were banned from competing at the event, due to the unfair advantage of the Greater Galliagh Area training facility. As a result, bookies now say the odds on the ‘Exploding Chip Pan’, ‘Brick Dodging’, ‘Burnt Out Car’ & ‘Flaming Wheelie Bin’ events are now wide open. Derry citizens, in am uncharacteristic huff that Belfast gets everything, are now expected to host their own Police & Fire Games later this evening, by calling in hoax bomb threats at the Templemore Sports Complex. Reports suggest a Total Wipeout style assault course has already been assembled on the running track using an assortment of bonfire materials and stolen cars.
