¤GURD FINDS BOMB INSIDE BANK IN OSUN STATE: Commercial activities were yesterday paralyzed in Osogbo as banks hurriedly closed over bomb scare owing to an improvised explosive device found inside one of the branches of the First Bank Plc in Osogbo, capital of Osun State. Security operatives attached to the bank discovered an explosive object suspected to be bomb inside banking hall of the First Bank branch located at Station Road area of Osogbo. The object was concealed in a polythene bag inside the bank. The development forced all the banks in Osogbo to stop their operation and send their customers away because of the palpable fear that the explosive was planted by armed robber who wanted to attack the bank. Timely intervention of anti bomb squad of Osun state Police command saved the situation and the explosive device was evacuated while police intensified security in all the banks in the town. Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Ibrahim Maishanu while speaking on the development said circumstances surrounding the object which was discovered to be an improvise explosive device would be investigated and that police are on top of the situation. Meanwhile, the state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola has called on security agencies in the state to get to the root of the matter and tell the whole world how this device found its way into a banking hall. The governor spoke through Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, Director of Bureau of Communication and Strategy in the Office of the Governor, Osogbo. Aregbesola said considering the usually impregnable fortification of banks through their various screening machines which detect metals and other objects of lesser dangers, it is unthinkable how the device scaled through this fortress of the bank before it got into the banking hall where it was discovered. To be specific, we suspect a deliberate foul play in the antics of those who desire to create a sense of insecurity in this state through their various machinations and manipulations. We are however assured of the readiness of the security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation on the development in order to strengthen the assurances of our people and visitors that Osun remains a safe haven for businesses and pleasure.
