GURGAON: The Aam Aadmi Party has struck a chord with the citys homemakers with many joining the party to make a difference and take break from their daily schedules. Maleeha Mateen, 52, a resident of Ardee City, is today is an AAP volunteer and has more to do than her usual household chores. There are quite a few housewives like Maleeha in the city, who are spending hours enrolling members outside malls and in various housing societies here. A few of them, who went to Delhi to participate in the partys recent protest outside Rail Bhawan and faced the caning cops, said they were not at all scared. For the past one month, Maleeha along with other women have spent 8-9 hours every day enrolling members for the party, attending strategy meetings, taking helpline calls. I got associated with the party soon after its launch in Gurgaon. Initially it was the partys ideology that pulled me towards it but now AAP has become my identity. I feel empowered when people address me as an AAP volunteer, said Maleeha. Geetha Ganesh, a retired professional living in Essel Towers in Sector 28, believes AAP is the only platform for ordinary people like her to fight corruption. We have been going from village to village, standing outside malls and visiting residential apartments to encourage people to join AAP. We note down their problems and issues which affect them. I along with five others joined the recent protest in Delhi because we wanted to show our support. I saw some miscreants pelting stones at the cops there, resulting in lathicharge. We immediately formed a human chain and helped bringing the situation in control. I was not at all scared, she said. The convenor of AAP in Gurgaon, Ramesh Yadav, said the partys support base is getting strong by the day. Apart from housewives, students and small time businessmen have also come in our support, said Yadav. I always wanted to get associated with a political party but could never get a head start as one would either need good money or strong links. Since I belong to a middle class family I had none. I am an AAP member since the partys inception, said Saroj Yadav, a Wazirabad resident.
