Gagran killings Shopian calls-off 22-days strike from today Shifting of CRPF already under process: IGP Srinagar, Sep 28: After 22-days of continuous strike against civilian killings at Gagran, the people of Shopian have decided to call off their strike from tomorrow while giving authorities a 12-days deadline to shift CRPF from Gagran camp or face a strong agitation including strike. The meeting however, called for a strike on October 4, 7 and a peaceful protest demonstration after Friday (October 4) prayers. Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Abdul Ghani Mir while talking to KNS reiterated that the administration is duty bound to implement the government order on shifting of CRPF from Gagran camp. According to KNS Shopian correspondent, a meeting of Bar Association Shopian, trader federation, civil society members, study circle, industries association, central contractors’ coordination committee, medical association, transport association, fruit traders association, Auqaf Jamia Mosque, Auqaf Jamia Aehl-e-Hadees and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Kashmir leaders including Mohammad Yosuf Falaie took place at Nawa Mosque Shopian at around 9 am. “The meeting decided to call off the strike as the participants believed that the continuous strike will affect the socio-economic condition of people which can prove detrimental to their struggle. There was a consensus among the participants of the meeting that if the government failed to meet out the deadline for shifting of CRPF, then the people will be compelled to launch a string agitation for which the government will be responsible,” the KNS correspondent added. It was also decided in the meeting that in case the government fails to shift the CRPF within the stipulated deadline (by or before October 10), the entire population of Gagran and its adjoining village Memendar will go for migration and stage a sit-in at Main Chowk Shopian along with their beddings. In the meantime, the IGP Kashmir informed KNS that the shifting of CRPF is already under process and a contingent of CRPF has already left the camp. “There is some repair work going on at the new location for CRPF and as soon as this work is complete you will find no CRPF personal at Gagran camp,” he added.
