Gala and silent auction to raise money for local libraries The Cobb Library Foundations cornerstone fundraising event, the Booked for the Evening Gala and Silent Auction, will be held Thursday, Oct. 16, at Marietta Country Club. The event will feature the award-winning author of seven New York Times best selling novels Emily Giffin. She is a Jim and Carol Ney Literary Award recipient and her book Something Borrowed was made into a movie starring Kate Hudson. Several of her follow-up novels have been optioned for development in Hollywood. The evening starts at 6 p.m. with a reception, followed by a buffet, cocktails and the auction. This event is in its fourth year and has funded many projects that have enriched the 16 Cobb libraries, including portable computer labs, eGovernment stations, early learning stations for children and special book and multimedia materials for the summer reading program. It also funded support of the inaugural Teen Center programs and the GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math and Science) summer program. Giffins books will be for sale throughout the event and autographs will be available. For more information, visit
