Galatians 4:17-19 They make much of you, but for no good purpose. - TopicsExpress

Galatians 4:17-19 They make much of you, but for no good purpose. They want to shut you out, that you may make much of them. It is always good to be made much of for a good purpose, and not only when I am present with you, my little children, for whom I am again in the anguish of childbirth until Christ is formed in you! It always feels nice when those around us make a big fuss over us. Everyone likes to be made to feel special. But sometimes, we need to take a careful look at what motivates people to treat us so well. Are they honestly trying to build us up, or are they just blowing smoke and trying to butter us up because of what we can do for them? Here, Paul tells the Galatians that some people were only being nice to them so that they could receive something in return. Im afraid that there is a lot of that going around these days. And if you dont believe me, just think back to the recent election season. Out of all the promises you heard about what so and so what do for you if they got elected, how many of those promises do you actually think will ever be fulfilled? By the same token, we need to be careful who we choose to build up. We live in a society that constantly idolizes athletes and musicians. Of course they can do things that normal people cant do, but do they really have any business being the people we look up to? As Christians, we are expected to make better judgements. We need to look up to those people who really deserve it like our educators, public servants and leaders in the Church. We may not have chosen the right role models in the past, but it is never too late to change. Take some time today and think about just who it is that you look up to. Do they really deserve it? If not, now is the time to correct this aspect of your life. ~Kevin Numbers 6:24-26 Romans 8:38-39.
