Galatians 6:1–2, Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any - TopicsExpress

Galatians 6:1–2, Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Yesterday we looked at the fruit that is to be produced through the life of a born again believer so that others may come and partake of it. Today we see those who are to come and to partake and receive the benefits of our produce. By addressing this command to "Brethren" Paul is speaking to all who are part of the church. The example he uses is a fellow believer who has let his guard down and willful stepped into sin. He then narrows the listeners down to "those who are spiritual". How do we really know who is spiritual? This would be those who are others orientated who produce the fruits of the Spirit, hopefully all in the body of Christ. He commands us to see the trespassing party restored or brought back to the place they were before entering into the sin. The manner in which we are to do so is with a spirit of gentleness (a fruit of the Spirit). The first reason for this restoration is that that we would see this brother back in fellowship with us but we must consider the possibility that we may one day find ourselves in their situation. The more I edify the church the more I will be edified by the church. The church has been accused of killing off its wounded, what happens when you find yourself wounded by the world? I have heard Pastor Chuck Smith say that when we are confronted by a sinning brother we can so quickly play the role of the Police Officer when in fact we have been called to be the Paramedic. For calcification always look to the cross for a reminder. The vertical beam reminds us of the greatest commandment, to love God. The horizontal beam reminds us to love each other. Matthew 22:40, On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
