Gale Brewer has never been afraid to speak out against injustice or incompetence. The poor door issue is only the latest example. Developers receive tremendous tax breaks, zoning variances that allow them to big bigger, more profitable buildings, and even more favorable financing for including 20% affordable units in new construction. They should not be allowed to treat the residents of those units any differently than the others in the building. They may not be paying the same, but clearly other good and valuable consideration was received to make the inclusion of those units a good business proposition. Time for the developers to stop pretending otherwise.
