Galing naman .. San Mig Coffee rookie Ian Sangalang will need to wait just a little bit longer before getting a much deserved rest following his team’s successful Grand Slam campaign in the PBA. That’s because the 6-foot-6 forward from Pampanga has agreed to represent the country in the FIBA 3×3 World Tour’s Manila Masters to be held on July 19 and 20 at the SM Megamall. “We’re thankful to San Mig Coffee management, the PBA and Sangalang himself because he agreed to play for one of the four teams the Philippines is fielding in this tournament,” Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) executive director Sonny Barrios told InterAksyon. Sangalang is set to reunite with former San Sebastian teammate Calvin Abueva, who was earlier named as one of the country’s representatives. They will be joined by Alaska forward Vic Manuel and Gilas cadet pool member Jake Pascual. There will be another Philippine squad set to feature PBA players, this time led by rookie hotshot Terrence Romeo of GlobalPort. Talk ‘N Text’s KG Canaleta, NLEX’s Aldrech Ramos and Rey Guevarra of Meralco complete the team. The two teams will be guided by former national youth team coach and current NU mentor Eric Altamirano and La Salle Greenhills coach John Flores, who steered the FIBA Asia 3×3 Under-18 champion team of Kobe Paras, Thirdy Ravena, Prince Rivero and Arvin Tolentino. “They will guide the PBA players because most of them are still not familiar with the 3×3 rules,” added Barrios.
