Galle is a town situated on the southwestern tip of Sri Lanka, 119 km from Colombo. “Galle” the capital of the southern province is a city with a colorful history. UNESCO declared, World Heritage Site, the magnificent Dutch fort is the most popular attraction of the town. 300 year old Dutch atmosphere is still very much alive around the fort and amidst its many historical buildings not invaded by the skyscrapers. After visiting Galle fortress, we will return to Colombo via Galle – Colombo main road. We will visit the coral reef at Hikkaduwa which is one of the most popular beach resorts of Sri Lanka. Sri Lankas only marine sanctuary is located here. It is an ideal place for nature lovers with its abundant corals and tropical fishes. Maadu river boat ride is next experience of our Galle day tour. Maadu River is a complex coastal ecosystem of mangroves and islands. It is one of the last remaining tracts of pristine mangrove forests in Sri Lanka. There are around 64 islands in the river and lagoon and visiting Cinnamon Island where we can view the cinnamon production process and visit hundreds of species of plants and animal are the great attraction of the boat ride. After joyful boat ride we will continue to Colombo, en route visit Kosgoda turtle conservation project and Kalutara temple. Kosgoda sea turtle conservation project was established in 1988 to protect Sri Lanka’s turtles from extinction, operated by the Wild Life Protection Society of Sri Lanka. The hatchery pays fishermen for eggs that they collect at night along the long sandy beach. The hatchery buries the eggs in sand, and when they hatch around 50 days later the baby turtles are released into the sea at night. Only about one in 1,000 turtles survive to maturity. Since 1988, it has released about 3.5 million baby turtles into the sea. Kalutara temple, built in the 1960s, is located just south of the Kalutara Bridge and is the only dagoba (Buddhist shrine) in the world that is hollow. Inside, the cool, echoing walls are lined with a sequence of 74 murals depicting various scenes from the Buddhist Jataka (the legendary 550 previous births of the Buddha) tales. It is a lively complex and a good place to watch the daily rituals of Sri Lankan Buddhism: the offerings to Buddha images are made three times a day. Devotees place food and flowers in front of the images, lighting coconut-oil lamps, tying prayers written on scraps of cloth to one of the Bo trees or pouring water into conduits which run down to water the Bo trees roots. After all, we will end out Galle day tour around 2000 hours from Colombo. Inquiry superbholiday.net/day-tours [email protected]
