Gallerí Gestur/Gallery Guest Farandgallerí/Touring Gallery 01/10/2013 – 31/10/2013 Melkorka Stiller-Magnúsdóttir Remembering, 2012 Digital C-type Prints Melkorka Stiller- Magnúsdóttir graduated with a BA (hons) in Photography from Nottingham Trent University in 2013. Currently, Stiller-Magnúsdóttir is developing her career as a professional portrait photographer in Nottingham. Remembering was created in memory of my grandfather Gestur Hallgrímsson who sadly lost his battle to cancer on the 25th of June 1996. The photographs and the texts presented in this series are a personal response to objects relating to him. These objects signify memories and emotions of personal value. The texts and photographs are intended to create a coherent unity in making treasured memories of a loved one visible”. Despite this work being a personal journey, the experience of losing a loved one is always painful and hard, and no matter what the circumstances, we as humans are never prepared for the sadness that follows. As living family and friends, all we are left with are memories to cherish and objects that serve as reminders of the loved ones that we have lost.
