Game Report for Reds Vs Uni Norths 9th August 2014 Todays game - TopicsExpress

Game Report for Reds Vs Uni Norths 9th August 2014 Todays game will be chronicled along side the Cooma game when we played in Cooma. It was as exciting and thrilling as any 1st Grade game , despite the last minute goal by Uni Norths to snatch the game by 2 points the blokes have nothing to feel bad about apart from the grazes , bruises and soreness. From the whistle the match was contested by both sides with guts and determination , for the most part it was played in the middle 50 metres of the field , from 25 metre line to 25 metre line. It was a forwards game with short running and plenty of tackling to be had , neither team was afraid in this regard and the rucks were strongly fought with possession changing often. this gave Joey Kremer the opportunity to swing the ball and direct the play as he saw the need or thought gaps might appear. Neither of the teams of combatants gave but only small bits of ground at a time, defence was rock solid and the tackling fierce with a hint of urgency , Tablelands Reds knew they had to shut the opposing side down whenever they they were in possession and this they did over and over. Llewellyn Davies performed well today and his tackling and running proving him to be a forward beyond reproach, his efforts an asset to the team. The backs today like Josh McDougall , Edward Quince ( who hardly swore at all today ) , Jack Elder , Haiden Brydon and Callum Furner played as much a forwards game as their own despite being much smaller, their defensive work was incredible and the tackle count enormous. Pierce Martin was into everything and is proving to be a very capable play maker and strategist , he obviously thinks in rugby terms and seems to be able to read the game and know what the fellows opposite are up to. Daniel Phillips , Zac Bunt and Corben Mobbs had huge games, Zac and Corben were always where the ball was and can be seen in photos always there in support and mostly in defence . Daniel scored the second try in one of his many runs at the line and had a blinder of a game. Caleb Smith scored a try in the second half and not surprisingly either as he must reckon there to be an award for most tries scored this season , Caleb continues to outdo himself with his attacking runs and driving tackles. Joel Clarke leading by example as all good captains do keeps taking it up regardless and his quick thinking resulted in the first try for the Reds , Joels defensive work is exemplary , also Ben Howard Jamie Matthews and Forbes Corby are tireless , almost like warriors who appear to have little regard for their themselves but willing at any cost to throw everything into the fray. Jamie kicked two goals from the sidelines in windy conditions. Brad Muddiman played a vital role in the line outs today , we won more of the line outs than we have for some time, and Brad keeps busting tackles that leaves the other team members wishing theyd passed the ball. Brad also scored a try through his utter determination and sheer resolve. Tablelands Reds work with the tackling machine at training is paying off and the blokes are seemingly taking notice of the valuable advice given to them by Ben Pearson - Yogi , Bill Cooper and Shaune Martin. Justyn Granger had an excellent game again today , he tackled the opposition hard all day and was noted to have dropped a couple of them, Justyn ran the ball up aplenty and was even sighted behind some rucks taking over from Joey Kremer ( look out Joey ) perhaps proving his versatility and eagerness to be involved in some try scoring . The forwards today held their own and gave as good as they got , albeit not the rough stuff , the Canberra sides play a game that is not always in the spirit of the game and reflects on the coaching they are given, the Reds blokes are perhaps too gentlemanly with regard to the game by comparison and today was no exception. The refereeing was of very high standard and I believe the penalties which went in favour of Goulburn highlight the style of play Reds are up against . I cannot say enough about the performance of Goulburn Reds today ,the game was a pleasure to watch and the blokes all done good. We anticipate the return of Henry Cooper next week, relieved of his photographic duties having served his weeks suspension and keen as to play the last round of the season before the semis. A big thank you and hello to Iris Corby for all your likes and reading the reports each week. Everyone come and watch the blokes play next weekend as Im sure it will be a great game and perhaps the last this season if we dont make the finals and your support would be fantastic .
