Games have rules. Its how they make sure that everyone has an equal chance to win. If there were no rules, it would be ok to run down the basketball court without dribbling the ball, shoot the basket and insist that it counted because you made the shot. It would be ok to swing the bat and miss the ball but still run to first base and say that because you were fast enough to beat the throw and make it, its ok -- it counts. Rules level the playing field and make it about who is good at the game. If your basketball team wanted to play without dribbling, you might find it hard to find a basketball team that would be your opponent. Same with your baseball team that just wanted to run the bases. So then, what if the NCAA said your team could play against those by the rules teams, but if you win it wouldnt count in the season stats but it would still be a win for your team? The picture in the newspaper the next day shows your team cutting down the net, big smiles, a headline that says Winners!. Or your players streaming out of the dugout, piling on each other, Winners!. Your win doesnt count, but your team got the applause, the headlines, the glory. How does the other team feel? I know.
