Gandhi used to hit his wife and force himself on her during the early years of their marriage, mostly while he was attempting to become a lawyer. He also liberated a country from the oppressive empirical rule of the British Empire without killing anyone and set the standard for boycotting and non violent protest that has helped to shape how many societies have won their independence, including the battle for Civil Rights here in the United States. During the late years of his life and marriage he learned the error of his youth and the way Hindu culture promoted violence against women and wrote about it extensively. He and his wife remained loyal and loving to each other until his last day. Do the ends justify the means? Is Gandhi a horrible person?
