Ganta Update - Day 7 Team Blog Day 7 Today was the final day of nursing seminars. Next week for the nurses will be about observation. The day began with our attendance at the school devotion time at 7:30am. Jim was asked to deliver the message. He spoke about creation and honoring God. On our arrival, the children were lined up in columns by grade level in front of the permanent lecturn in the schoolyard. The Assistant Principal announced that they would have a guest speaker and that anyone causing trouble would be disciplined. He then patrolled the columns with switch from a tree. Needless to say, the children were well behaved and respectful. The library is looking wonderful. books are arranged in the proper order and are shelved on the new wooden shelves that were constructed just for this library. Terri and Doug have enjoyed working with Rose the librarian. Terri is excited that she was able to teach Rose how to do a story time.Robin and Paula spent the morning observing the OR where they were able to witness two c-sections and two hernia operations. They were impressed with the skills of the OR team and the professionalism they continue to display under very difficult circumstance; no AC, low light, no suction, no equipment, not tape, NO RUNNING WATER etc... Given all the limitations, these healthcare professionals do amazing work. The nursing seminars concluded today with Cynthia presenting on breastfeeding and Linda speaking about eclampsia, preeclampsia and postpartem psychosis. The sessions were very crowded and the attendees were attentive and asked many questions, despite the distractions of crowing roosters, hovering UN helicopters, ( the choppers come in at the same time every day), and chattering crowds outside the open windows. At the conclusion of the seminars Linda and the hospital chaplain conducted a blessing of the hands for any who desired to participate. This came at the request of the attendees so just about everyone stayed for it. Cynthia, Karen, Paula, Linda and Robin blessed their hands with oil as the all sang; Pass Me Not O Gentle Savior. It was a beautiful and emotional service. Everyone was very tired at the end of the day as both the library team and the medical team returned to the house after 5pm. Terri and Doug met with the school board to offer help with the planning of a service for the students that would allow them to rent textbooks for a refundable deposit. They also requested permission to shelve books in the library that they found in storage. Following dinner, Linda brought out the evaluations and comments given by the seminar attendees. The favorite was turned in by Jacob; To all of you, thanks for the soft drinks and the biscuits. Today is my first day of the workshop. I am Jacob, Patient from GUMS. Yes, folks. He is a psych patient that wandered into the seminar. He is also the same person who enjoys singing to Robin. Tomorrow we will get an extra 1/2 hour sleep then head to the rainforest for a day of touristy stuff and some relaxation. \\End Day 7 God is good. All the time.
