Garda Liam Linehan here Community Garda in Ballincollig Garda Station. Just dropping you a quick line with a word of advice that you might pass on to your members. It has come to the notice of my Garda Colleauges in the North Cork Garda Division that there has been a very apparent rise in acts of thefts from motor cars through out the division. It appears that a gang of criminals may be targetting cars which are parked outside or near sportsfields where matches or training training sessions are taking place. These gangs are are then breaking into these unattended vehicles in a smash and grab type senario where they break the windows and steal wallets, phones, cash or any other items which may have been left in the vehicle. To combat this type of crime we are encouraging clubs to adapt the following measures. >>>>Ensure that all your members are made aware of this information. >>>>Appoint where possible one person in the club to patrol or keep an eye on vehicles while training or matches are taking place. >>>>Encourage all members to lock any unattended vehicles. >>>>Lock all dressing rooms while training is taking place.
