Garden Report 4/19/14: Only survivors of the polar vortex are the mint, two walking onions, and one leaf fennel. Cleared all the weeds from the front beds, save a couple wild carrots and a bit of edible ground ivy I decided to let duke it out with the mint. In the process, dug up enough skinny worms and fat grubs for an epic fishing trip, but did not collect them. Made a compost bin (okay, I drilled drainage holes in a garbage can) and shoveled the unruly pile Ive been collecting into it. In the process, found two volunteers - one onion and one almond (I think.) Potted the almond and let the onion stay put. Im in need of shade plants if anyone has some that need homes - edibles preferred, but Id gratefully take anything that will grow and look nice. Invasive is fine - I have a whole big bed that needs filling.
