Garden Tip: Spring-flowering shrubs and vines should be pruned - TopicsExpress

Garden Tip: Spring-flowering shrubs and vines should be pruned soon after they finish blooming – for most, that means now. This is the time to reshape them and to apply an all-nitrogen fertilizer (unless you are in extreme water curtailments). Included in the list: azaleas, forsythia, flowering quince, Lady Banksia rose (and other climbing roses that only bloom one time per year), wisteria, Carolina jessamine, crossvine and others. If your bridal wreath has finished blooming, it goes on the list, too. Try to maintain a natural growth form with these plants. In other words, don’t shear them into squares or globes. DO NOT remove leaves of daffodils and other spring bulbs if you intend for them to stay in place for another years flowering.
