Gardeners gratitude of the day: The Mrs. Kemps ;-) Growing up - TopicsExpress

Gardeners gratitude of the day: The Mrs. Kemps ;-) Growing up with two generations of Kemp women as neighbors grounded me in a sense of place, and a deep love of horticulture. Grandmother Kemp relayed histories of the landscapes we shared along the river. Her stories brought to life every path, well, wall, arrowhead, shipwrights nail, home, cellar hole, dump site, tree, plant, animal and person whos life lingered in the artifacts of the landscape. Mrs. Kemp the younger (pictured here with her arts and crafts shingle mansion) taught me about the culture inherent in fine gardening and horticulture. She was an avid plants-woman,collector and hands in the earth Yankee gardener. She took me to my first flower show where I first became a member of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society at age 8. Tomorrow, I begin work as the new Director of Horticulture for the same organization. A few years back I went to visit and thank and her family for fostering my love of gardening and life long career path. She responded in her fond but matter of fact manner Thank you for saying so, but really, we only fostered a passion we already saw in you
