Garig Gunak Barlu National Park is definitely a happening place at the moment. Alan and Emma Withers have sent in this truly magical clip of Green sea turtle hatchlings (Chelonia mydas) emerging from their nesting burrow. Alan told us that they had disturbed a large goanna that had been digging on the beach just on sunset. As he and Emma approached, the goanna raced off down the beach and they could see that its digging had triggered the hatchlings, which apparently looked a little like wind up fifty cent pieces with flippers, to start emerging from the sand. They stayed at the site until all the hatchlings had made it safely into the water. A huge shout out and thank you goes to our fantastic NT Parks people at Garig Gunak Barlu, Allan and Emma Withers for the regular glimpses that they give us into this amazing place.
