Garo Mardirossian represents the family of Frank Mendoza, Sr., a 54 year old grandfather who was shot and killed by Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputies in Pico Rivera on August 1, 2014. The Sheriff’s officers were attempting to locate and arrest 24 year old Cedric Ramirez, who was suspected of parole violations. Ramirez is not related to anyone in the Mendoza family. As the officers were aware, Ramirez has a slight build, weighing only 120 pounds, and is bald headed. At the Mendoza home, Mr. Mendoza’s two grandchildren first exited the front door, followed by 54 year old Frank Mendoza, Sr., who weighs in excess of 200 pounds and has a full head of hair. Mr. Mendoza was unarmed, more than twice the age of suspect Ramirez, and does not match the description of parole violation suspect Ramirez in any respect. However, as Mr. Mendoza walked out of the front door of his home, Sheriff’s officers fired on him striking Mr. Mendoza in his leg and his head. Mr. Mendoza was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect Cedric Ramirez was later found hiding in the garage behind the Mendoza home. Decedent Frank Mendoza, Sr. had been employed by Lucky Grocery Stores for decades, and he was a highly respected member of his community.
