Garu rapist murderer gets lifer In a landmark judgment, the convict of Garu rapist and murderer Bohuna Das has been sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment and fined Rs.5000 for default for the offence U/S 376 IPC, in default to undergo further simple life imprisonment for another one year. Both the sentence would run consecutively, stated the judgement. Additional Session Judge Basar, Jaweplu Chai pronounced the judgment on Tuesday. The heinous rape and murder was committed at Garu under West Siang on Aug 29. A FIR was lodged and the case was registered on Aug 30, and the charge was framed on Dec 19. The hearing of the accused for sentence was held on Dec 22 with final judgment pronounced on Dec 23. The Chief judicial Magistrate Aalo, Tage Halley took cognizance against the accused person on Nov 12 last and committed the case for trial in the session court. The accused was produced from Aalo judicial lock up at Basar Court on Dec 16 and was asked to manage his own defence counsel and given an opportunity to talk to his relative over mobile phone. As the accused expressed his inability to manage any defence counsel, Advocate Taji Tajom was provided as State Defence Counsel for the accused and T. Nima and M. Basar as public prosecutors pleaded for the State of A.P. The court also considered the matter of compensation U/S 357A CrPC and as the convict is unable to afford even his own Defense Counsel, the matter has been referred to District legal Service Authority for deciding the matter of compensation to husband and children of the deceased under Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme 2011. The period of detention already in custody during the investigation and trial will be set off as per Section 428 and be counted towards the sentences. DIPRO
