As teachers, parents, and community members, we have to remember not all decisions being made for education at the district, state, and federal levels are best for public education…our students. So…here is a great opportunity to know what is happening in Colorado’s 2015 legislature. R.A.V.E. (RAVE Caucus): “An opportunity to learn about what to expect for the 2015 legislation specifically around education.” (Senator Michael Merrifield plans to attend.) Rachael Stickland will be facilitating this meeting. Rachael is a public education advocate and parent of two children in public schools. She organized and led a successful parent opposition in Colorado against the controversial inBloom data project featured in the New York Times and Politico. As co-chair of the newly formed national advocacy group Parent Coalition for Student Privacy, Rachael travels to Washington, D.C. to meet with Congressional staff, privacy experts and national organizations to design and lobby for strong federal student privacy legislation. Locally, Rachael has provided testimony to the State Board of Education on issues ranging from student privacy to standardized testing. Rachael is currently collaborating with a coalition of professional associations, elected officials and privacy advocates aimed at closing loopholes in the existing student privacy law. Everyone is invited. R.A.V.E. welcomes students, parents, teachers, AFT members, NEA members, and all community activists. Date: Wednesday, January 7, 2015 Time: 6:00 PM Location: Student Achievement Resource Center (SARC) 14188 East Briarwood Ave. Centennial, CO 80112 So…become informed and involved…DCSD students deserve it!
